MonoGame RPG Tutorial 62 – Live

MonoGame RPG tutorial 61 is now live. And, wow! This tutorial took a long time to write. This tutorial covers creating spells in the editor to be used in the game rather than creating them statically in code. You can find the tutorial on the Eyes of the Dragon page of the site. Also, you can find the tutorial at this direct link.

I also what to wish you all the best in 2022, May it be a year of many blessings and inspiration for us all. Happy New Year!

What’s Next?

I have tackled spells, but not talents. They are similar but the length of the tutorial was really dragging on. If it is dragging on for me writing it, I can imagine what it will be like fore you reading it. So, the next tutorial will cover talents. Also, it will cover saving and loading spells and talents. I don’t know if I will cover reading them into the game. That I might leave to tutorial 64.

My Projects

I haven’t worked on a project of my own recently. My editor is at the point where it mainly needs content, and the dialog editor. I may leave out the dialog editor, for now, and focus more on the content. Adding in more code completion will make my life easier in the long run. I also want to work on a game! I am considering a reboot of Heroes of Might and Magic III, which I play a lot to relieve tension. As always, the big problem is assets. I can find placeholders on OpenGameArt.org easily enough, but I would want to hire a pixel artist or a 3D modeler.

Final Thoughts

It felt good to get a tutorial under my belt. It was a long tutorial, around forty pages. Hopefully, the next one will not be as long. I have a feeling it will, though. I don’t have an estimate on when that one will be ready. Again, I want to wish you a Happy New Year! I will try to be more present on the blog, but my work is demanding and I need to decompress on the weekends. So, I encourage you to keep visiting the blog for the latest news on my tutorials and other goodness.

Good luck with your game programming adventures!
