So, it looks like I am turning the bend. Things are getting better, and I have had an opportunity to work on tutorials a bit; I still haven’t had the opportunity to work on my projects, but that will come in time. Unfortunately, I am away for most of today, so I won’t work on tutorials. I have made progress, though. The next MonoGame RPG tutorial is starting to take shape. I’m using some images from https://opengameart.org for the tutorial. It will cover equipping items from inventory. I need to calculate some destination rectangles to place the items in the backpack and when equipped with a character. I hope to have the tutorial up within the next week.
My Projects
Mostly I have focused on what used to be called Lost Fate. I still haven’t come up with a new title. I have made some excellent progress in converting the project to use MonoGame as the front end with a web API for the back end. Some nice transitions and animations are working for battling. I also have booster packs working and deck building. However, the mana system is clunky, and I want to replace it with something else. The way that it works now is that starting with turn one, you get three mana. The mana is invested into might, magic, and stealth crystals. The crystals are used to cast your spells—sort of a hybrid of Magic The Gathering and Hearthstone. It works; however, I would like something a little more automated. Also, the cards aren’t balanced at all. Also, I need to make an editor for editing cards.
Final Thoughts
It feels good to be back in the saddle, so to speak. Coding and writing tutorials are helping with my recovery. So, I do want to jump back in. However, I need to be cautious that I don’t cause a hypomanic episode. Bipolar is really tough in that regard. I hope to have the tutorial up in the next week. So, keep coming back to the blog for more tutorials and other good stuff.
