MonoGame RPG Tutorial 43 Is Live

I am pleased to announce that MonoGame RPG Tutorial 32 in my Eyes of the Dragon tutorial series is live. Sorry for the gap in between tutorials, but it could not be helped! The tutorial is available on the Eyes of the Dragon page of the blog. Also, you can use this link to access it directly.

What’s Next?

Up next, I will continue with the equipment the player has found. I will allow the player to equip the items from the backpack, if able. After that, I will move on to battling mobs. I’m considering allowing players to kill NPCs, and if they do, triggering the town guard. It would be an interesting addition to the game. I would also allow for other crimes and have bounties that the player has to pay back in the town. Alternatively, they could attempt to kill the guards in their way—all things I consider.

My Projects

I haven’t worked on my projects today. I was busy with the tutorial and preparing for an interview tomorrow. I am actually torn on what to work on. I have what was previously called Lost Fate. I have Silver Prophet, a role-playing game similar to Eyes of the Dragon. Also, I have Shadow Monsters. All three are at about the halfway point. I could continue with Lost Fate. The problem with Lost Fate is I require an expensive server to run it for more than, say, one hundred players at a time. An alternative would be to rewrite the server and host it in the cloud. Both are viable options but expensive. Then, there is Silver Prophet, which is working well. However, it needs a lot of content to be completed. As I’ve said before, game programming is easy; quality content creation is hard. Shadow Monsters is in pretty much the same boat as Silver Prophet. It needs a lot of content to be completed. Also, it requires art for the shadow monsters. So, all three need things that I currently don’t have access to. So, I will take some time to think about what to work on next. In the meantime, I will try and focus on tutorials.

Final Thoughts

Wow, almost four months between tutorials. I knew it was long, but I didn’t realize it was quite that long. My health had to come first, though. But, it does feel good to be back in the saddle. I will be starting the next tutorial today or tomorrow. I won’t be able to work on it on Friday or Saturday. If I am able, I won’t have a lot of time to spend. Keep coming back to the blog for the latest news on my tutorials and other goodness.

Good luck with your game programming adventures!
