I have just finished tutorial 14 in my MonoGame RPG tutorial series on my Google Drive. This tutorial introduces mobs and the concept of encounter layers. An encounter is a planned interaction between the player and a mob. Normally, that interaction will result in combat. There is the potential for other outcomes, though. The tutorial is on my blog’s Eyes of the Dragon 4.0 page. Or you can use this direct link.
What’s Next?
I think I need a bit of a break from Eyes of the Dragon. For that reason, I will either do a quick Forest Rush tutorial or a similar tutorial to this one for A Summoner’s Tale. I mean adding an encounter layer to A Summoner’s Tale. Of course, it would have to have monsters and other characters to battle. But, using a similar principle, it should be doable.
My Projects
Shadow Monsters is kicking up a fuss. I had the whole day off and didn’t spend an iota of time with her. She is threatening to file for divorce again, saying I spend more time with my cat than with her. I have managed to calm her down, though. I promised she would get some prime Cynthia time tomorrow, and I meant it. So, I likely will not work on a tutorial tomorrow.
Final Thoughts
It was nice to see a new tutorial go up today. It wasn’t as long as others, but it was important. Moreover, it laid a good foundation upon which to build upon. I did use reflection again. It is just so easy to work with. I don’t know why I avoided it so much for so long. Anyway, I will be back tomorrow with another episode of game programming adventures.
