Date Day

Today was a date day, so I didn’t work on a tutorial. Instead, I spent the day with Shadow Monsters. I’m pleased to announce that our relationship is on the mend. I took her shopping, bought her lunch, went to a movie, and all of the typical date-day things. She is truly glowing. She has a run in her hose, though, and I need to buy her a new pair.

What’s Next?

As far as tutorials go, I haven’t decided. I’ve been thinking that I want to start on combat for A Summoner’s Tale. It is based on the conversation system and is much less complicated than Eyes of the Dragon. It has been a while since I’ve done one for A Summoner’s Tale. I would also like to do more work on the combat system for Eyes of the Dragon.

My Projects

As I stated above, my project is Shadow Monsters. I spent a lot of time with her today. Mostly, I was working on using render targets to handle multiple resolutions differently. I was using scaled vectors and rectangles, and it was getting messy. Other than combat, I have the screens working successfully. I had to make some adjustments to the tile engine. They were eluding me, but with all the love I gave Shadow Monsters today, she was merciful and yielded the solution.

Final Thoughts

All kidding aside, it was so nice to work on Shadow Monsters today, almost exclusively, for that matter. It still requires a lot of content. I will cross that bridge when I get to it. For now, there are some core gameplay elements that need attention. I need to make some updates to the combat system. I’m still considering making it a card game, like Magic: The Gathering. Anyway, I will be back tomorrow with another episode of the game programming adventures show.
