So, I had some extra time the past few days, and I will be posting the third tutorial in my A Summoner’s Tale tutorial shortly. This tutorial adds in the input manager and two game states. It demonstrates how to add a timer to the game and how to scroll the map. You can find the tutorial on my blog’s A Summoner’s Tale page, or you can use this direct link to the tutorial.
What’s Next?
Over the course of the weekend, I will be working on the fourth tutorial in my A Summoner’s Tale series. I plan to work on sprites. No, not the magical beings of lore. Sprites are images that are drawn to the screen in rapid succession. In this case, they will be animated. The animation will be achieved by drawing different frames one after the other and then looping back to the original frame.
My Projects
I will also be working on my project, Shadow Monsters. Shadow Monsters is really similar to A Summoner’s Tale. In fact, they will share virtually the same code base. However, there are, of course, some differences because I don’t want to give away all of my secrets. What I will be working on is battling other summoners. The code works. I want to switch from static images to animated images during battles.
Final Thoughts
It is great being back in the saddle with tutorials. I’ve enjoyed coding and writing them, even after a full day’s work. I hope to finish one or two over the course of the weekend. I sure hope that this creative spurt continues.
Good luck with your game programming adventures!
