Next Eyes of the Dragon 4.0 Tutorial! Part 13

I know I mentioned yesterday that I was going to work on a new Forest Rush tutorial. I envisioned what I would have to do, and it wasn’t as straightforward as I expected. So, instead, I worked on the next Eyes of the Dragon 4.0 tutorial. I have just uploaded and shared the next that tutorial. This tutorial picks up where the last one left off and works on finalizing the character generator. Also, it fixes a defect in the conversation system where it would crash when clicking an option. What’s Next?

It will be an Eyes of the Dragon 4.0 or A Summoner’s Tale tutorial. I am leaning toward Eyes of the Dragon 4.0 because it is much more popular. However, I don’t want to forget about A Summoner’s Tale because it is also very popular. In either event, I will have to spend some time with each game to determine what I want to tackle next. Naturally, combat is high on that list.

My Projects

I plan to spend the balance of the evening working on Shadow Monsters. When I last left it, I was working on moving to use a render target instead of a scale vector. So that is what I will continue working on. After that, I will work on maps when that is finished since that is one of the big areas left to tackle. The other area I need to work on is shadow monsters. I only have two defined at this point. After that, I’m considering reworking things to follow games like Magic: The Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh instead of Pokemon. The only challenge I can see with that is that there would be no random encounters, and it would be harder for the player to get more monsters unless it was like the anime Card Captors. It would open itself up more to multiplayer.

Final Thoughts

I just opened some ideas regarding Shadow Monster, good thing they are in this post so I can refer back if I forget. It was great getting another tutorial up on the blog. I always feel such a sense of accomplishment and that I’m giving back to the community. It probably won’t be until the weekend that you will see a new tutorial, but check back just in case. I will be back tomorrow with another episode of game programming adventures.
