First, sorry about missing yesterday. It was a rather taxing day. So, today was a rather busy day. Before leaving for the Magic: The Gathering pre-release event, I worked on the newest Eyes of the Dragon 4.0 tutorial. I got a nice piece of it finished. Then, there was the event. It is the first time that I’ve been in six years, and I did enjoy it immensely. I got home a while ago, but I have been busy with things like cooking and cleaning. So, I’m just sitting at the computer now and wanted to write this before going back to the tutorial because I doubt I will finish it tonight.
What’s Next?
As I alluded to above, the next tutorial will be an Eyes of the Dragon 4.0 tutorial. The tutorial continues with encounters with mobs. Currently, I have the game flipping to an encounter state if the player presses the E key and they are adjacent to a mob. The player and mob are rendered. However, there is no map, just a plain black screen. There has been something bothering me, and that is the size of the sprites. I feel that a 32 by 32 tile size is too small. So, I moved to a 64 by 64 tile size.
My Projects
I did briefly touch Shadow Monsters the past few days. Unfortunately, I didn’t make much visible progress. I was looking at why some scaling was not working when it came to buttons. They behave fine at regular resolution. However, when I try to scale them, they break. It is only for states I want to be drawn over the top of other states, like a menu that slides in from the right and pop-ups.
Final Thoughts
Other than yesterday, it was a good weekend. So, I guess it really wasn’t that great of a weekend. But today was fun, and I needed it. I got some cool cards for my Commander decks. I don’t have enough cards to play standard at the moment, but maybe after rotation in September. I think I will start attending a weekly Friday night thing near me. I won’t have much availability tomorrow for tutorials or programming on my own things. My schedule is just too jammed packs. So, I will apologize if I don’t get to a post tomorrow. Anyway, I will be back in two days with another episode of Game Programming Adventures.
