A Summoner’s Tale Tutorial 04 Live

Today was a quiet day for me, so I spent some of the day working on tutorial 04 in my A Summoner’s Tale series. Well, I finished the tutorial and uploaded it to my Google Drive and the project. I have also pushed it to the GitHub repository. This tutorial adds in some GUI controls, a control manager, and a new project that will be the editor. You can find the like to the tutorial on my A Summoner’s Tale page, or you can use this direct link.

What’s Next?

What my plan is to work on the editor. In order to have a game, we need to create some content. The best way to do that is with an editor. In the following tutorial, I will most likely change the tile set. While this one is okay, I don’t think it entirely fits our needs. So I will browse my favourite website to find some tiles that will fit our needs, OpenGameArt.org. They have a lot of resources that could meet our needs.

My Projects

Well, I haven’t spent any time on my projects so far today. However, after I have finished updating my blog with the latest news about the tutorial, I will do that. After that, I will create the world that the player will explore. I have an idea in my mind of what I want to achieve. It is a lot of work, however. Painting the world a tile at a time is very time-consuming and requires a lot of attention to detail. I don’t enjoy it as much as coding or writing, but I do enjoy it. I want to update my editor to work on both my PC and MacBook. I plan to have the editor and game run on Linux, macOS, and PC.

Final Thoughts

It is so good being back to writing tutorials and my blog. I think I will start writing my blog again daily, even if nothing has changed. The act of writing is soothing for me. It also gives me a sense of purpose. I know from Google that I don’t get a lot of visitors, but I appreciate each and every visit. Thank you for being a great audience. On that note, I will bid you adieu.

All the best with your game programming adventures!
