So, after making my post yesterday, I decided to start work on tutorial 55 in my Eyes of the Dragon tutorial series. I got a good chunk of it done. This morning the writing bug was still in me, so I finished the tutorial. This tutorial starts with moving to real-time combat against mobs. What is working is you can attack monsters. If you inflict enough damage, they will die and drop loot. You can still gain experience for defeating mobs. When you get close enough to a monster, they will start to chase you. What does not work is that mobs do not attack back. Also, there is currently no way to use a spell or talent. You can find the link to the tutorial on the Eyes Of The Dragon page of the site. Also, you can use this direct link.
What’s Next?
Well, what is next is more on real-time combat. What I will be covering is mobs hitting back. It will be a little tricky, so I decided to give it a tutorial all of its own. Also, I will cover using spells and talents. Depending on how much time that takes, I may add recovering health and stamina/mana over time, like in Elder Scrolls: Skyrim and Dragon Age: Origins. At least this is the current plan for the next tutorial or two. As always, if you have a suggestion for a topic you would like to see covered, drop a comment in the comments section or send me an email.
My Projects
I want to spend at least some time on Forest Rush this weekend. Ideally, I would like to finish the Android version and get it up on Google Play Store, at least submitted. It doesn’t require a lot of work and is doable if I can find the time with everything else that is going on. I do have to work on a project for my job, though. It is a snippet manager. It stores the snippets in a SQL Server database, so it is accessible across the company. You can also use it to build scripts from snippets. Mainly, I need to add try-catch blocks to the database calls so the program doesn’t crash if there is an issue.
Final Thoughts
While I read and try to answer comments, I am a little frustrated. I have been getting more and more spam from the same person. It wouldn’t be so bad if their comments at least attempted to match the content they are posted on. If they were always from the same email, it would be easier to deal with.
It was great to post a tutorial. It always helps improve my mood when one goes up. I would like to get another up this weekend. However, I don’t know that I will have the time to do it. You never know, though. I didn’t think that I would get this tutorial done, so there is hope.
So, please keep coming back to the blog for the latest news on my tutorials and other goodness.
Good luck with your game programming adventures.
