So, today was a better day than the rest of the week. I think it is because I got a reasonably restful night’s sleep for a change. Still, one night does not make up for many. I will need a couple more nights before I am back to normal. My weekend is shaping up to be packed. I have the optometrist on Saturday to repeat a test and have more testing done. Also, I have something I have to do Sunday afternoon. So, I don’t think that I will have much time for tutorials. However, I will try and find some time for tutorials.
What’s Next?
The more I think about it, the more I want to move to real-time combat. There are a few things that I need to work out before I venture down that road. First, I can make basic attacks by left-clicking the mouse. That would perform an animation where the player’s weapon shoots out in the direction the player is facing. If there is a collision between the weapon and the enemy, there would be a hit, and the mob would take damage. What would be challenging is the player’s spells and talents. I think I would hotkey them to the 1 through 0 keys. If there is a spell or talent assigned to that key, it will fire. I would start with the player for a tutorial, or two, before moving to mobs. I would also need to write a tutorial on pathfinding to have the mob move toward the player. I might also want a mob that works from a range rather than melee, like a wizard. Timing would be vital to getting that to work.
My Projects
Sadly, my projects are on the back burner. There are things that I have to work on, rather than the things that I want to work on now. Also, tutorials and work are higher on the totem pole than games for me are right now. However, I do have a reasonably complete game that just needs audio and graphics. It wouldn’t take much to finish it. Also, it needs a settings page attached to it. I could finish that in a weekend or two. However, as I said earlier, I want to work on tutorials, and I have over time that I will need to do to keep on schedule because I need to take a day off next week.
Final Thoughts
I at least have a plan for tutorials now. Before, I was floundering in the dark. I will work on real-time combat instead of turn-based combat. I think that is a much better system than what is implemented now. I’m disappointed that I won’t have time to work on my projects. I might try and sneak in a bit of time on them, however. So, thanks for reading. I encourage you to keep returning to the blog for the latest news on my tutorials and other goodness.
Good luck with your game programming adventures!

Dear Dr.Cynthia,
Don’t push yourself too hard and let your eyes rest too. the works need the eyes and your healthy vision is better to take care of.
Cheer and Regards,
