So, I’ve been taking it easy the past week while waiting for my new glasses to come in. Hopefully, they will resolve the problems I have had reading screens. Unfortunately, they didn’t arrive this week, but I hope they will arrive before next weekend. It feels like it is taking a long time for the place to make them. Wearing my eye patch helps me see better, but it is also pretty annoying and causes issues with depth perception. Not to mention, it is not very stylish. So, I hope to hear soon that my new glasses are ready.
What’s Next?
I don’t know that I will be working on a tutorial this weekend. I would like to. However, I have errands that need to be done. I hope to get to them all tomorrow and have Sunday to myself to devote my time to projects, like tutorials and my games. If I get to tutorials, I will likely move to a real-time combat engine. I have been thinking about it, and I have some ideas on how I want to handle it. I will use a hotkey system for spells and talents and the mouse button for basic attacks. The trick will be having the mobs hit back with some sort of cool down so they don’t spam the player. I haven’t gotten that 100% figured out yet.
My Projects
I haven’t dusted off Forest Rush since I looked at it two weeks ago. This is because last weekend was so busy with going to the optometrist again and other obligations. I have some responsibilities this weekend, but I hope to handle them all tomorrow. If I am, I hope to spend some time working on Forest Rush, as well as a tutorial. Forest Rush mainly needs some graphics done. The game itself works flawlessly, though it is a little challenging. When I say challenging, I mean you can play for about thirty seconds before dying. That isn’t so bad for an average play-through of a casual game. My record was about four minutes. I’ve only ever come close to that one other time, and that was about three and a half minutes.
Final Thoughts
My vision issues have been challenging to deal with, professionally and personally. However, I can partially compensate for the difficulties by wearing a patch. This isn’t a perfect solution, though. But, it allows me to work without too many challenges. It doesn’t help so much out of the house, though. My depression is deepening, partly due to my vision, but primarily due to the shortening days here in North America. It is only 6:15 pm, and already it feels closer to 9:00 pm. There are, of course, other reasons, but I am not going to air the laundry over the internet. Hopefully, I can work some on projects this weekend, and that will help lift my mood. I should work on a work project on the weekend. However, I have just put in more than my 35 hours’ worth of work this week. Anyhow, I hope that you will keep visiting the blog for the latest news on my tutorials and other goodness.
Good luck with your game programming adventures!
